About
Aria Borealis is a singing competition designed by musicians for musicians. Aria Borealis is held in a different Nordic country each time. Instead of a traditional elimination format, we announce multiple winners after the initial video submission round. This creates a relaxed and creative atmosphere for making music together with players from five leading Nordic Baroque orchestras: Concerto Copenhagen (Denmark), Finnish Baroque Orchestra (Finland), Barokkanerne (Norway), Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble (Sweden), and Floridante (Estonia).
Contestants will receive coaching from jury members, including leading figures in the early music scene.
The first live round includes rehearsals and a concert with a continuo formed from Nordic Baroque musicians. Participants will also perform a folk song from their homeland.
The second round features ensemble performances and scenes from Baroque operas, oratorios, or cantatas with a full orchestra conducted.
Masterclasses and lectures are planned to be held in partnership with the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (for singers) and the Sibelius Academy (for instrumentalists), maximizing the presence of world-class jury members and musicians.
